Biography
Patricia Feltmann received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Western Oregon State College where she received training in Music Theory, Music History, conducting, vocal technique, foreign languages, piano, teaching methods, conducting, and many other subjects. After graduation she focused on performing opera and classical music along with private teaching and choral conducting.
As a classical singer she has been a soloist with the Juniper Opera, Eugene Opera, Linn-Benton Community Chorus, Sunriver Music Festival, Obsidian Opera, and Lebanon-Sweet Home Community Concert Association, and numerous churches as a soloist. In addition she sang the world premiere of the opera “Anna”, a one-act, solo opera by Corvallis, Oregon composer Robert Mix, as well as singing the part of the ghost of Christmas past in Mr. Mix’s opera “A Christmas Carol”.
In 1998 she turned her focus more on teaching and began pursuing her interest in contemporary styles of singing. She saw the need for informed, accurate information for the singer of popular music. She began analyzing the differences in sound and production for these styles and searched for reliable information to help her students achieve a healthy and authentic production. She found lots of classically trained singing teachers trying to push their techniques onto popular singers, or popular singers trying to teach other singers without a good understanding of how the voice truly works.
Since then Ms. Feltmann has studied under Lisa Popiel, MFA, founder of Voiceworks in Los Angeles and has become a Voiceworks™ Associate, and has recently completed training with Jeanette LoVetri to be a certified Somatic Voicework™ teacher. With this information and the continuing desire to find new, and accurate information, Ms. Feltmann has become one of the few singing teachers with training in contemporary styles, as well as classical.
Other training she has received has been in: anatomy & physiology of the voice, spectral analysis of the singing voice, medical care and the voice, the aging voice, the changing male voice, performance psychology, Alexander Method (a body usage technique), acting and foreign languages (4 years of college level German, 1 year of college level Italian, private coaching in French and Spanish).
Ms. Feltmann has also begun working on her Masters Degree in Contemporary Music. She hopes to have her degree by spring of 2009.
She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, where she continues to receive education in classical singing, body usage, stage presence, auditioning, and now Broadway belting.
Ms. Feltmann is the author of “Vocal Exercises for the Contemporary Singer” a vocal technique booklet and CD aimed at singers of contemporary styles.
Ms. Feltmann teaches in Lebanon and Corvallis, Oregon where she teaches private and group singing, vocal seminars, piano, beginning guitar, music theory, composition, stage presence, and microphone technique. She also hosts seminars to enhance the education of singers, such as Bodymapping (a body usage technique), Acting for Singers, Career Preparation, and more. She has had students from beginners to professional recording artists, ages 4 to 75.
She has a fully equipped studio with video, sound and recording equipment to help her students prepare for performances and contests.
Currently, Ms. Feltmann performs with Cool Conspiracy, a jazz quintet, and an acoustic group performing bluegrass, folk, country and swing, plus jazz performances with background CDs or piano, and an occasional classical performance. She enjoys occasional jobs as a voice actress for radio ads as well. She has also been a booking agent.
She lives in Lebanon, Oregon on a farm with her husband and two sons and numerous animals. Her hobbies include organic gardening and natural health. |

Production work refers to making accompaniment CDs, arranging music, designing labels and publicity material, video recording, and video editing that is done outside of lesson time.
The monthly plan offers a lower hourly rate. Plus, monthly plan students have preferential scheduling. The restrictions are that you must pay for all lessons offered that month. Tuition is discounted in months when fewer than four lessons are offered by instructor. The instructor takes vacation days in months that would have five lessons in the month so there will be no more than four lessons in a month. Tuition is due the first lesson of the month. Excused absences are made-up. Unexcused absences are not made-up.
Paying by the lesson offers the student more flexibility, and fewer restrictions, but the hourly rate is higher, and lessons are scheduled on space-available basis.
Summer ScheduleSummer scheduling differs from school year scheduling. Students schedule the number of lessons they have paid for in advance. Lessons do not need to be taken every week. This gives more flexibility for vacations and summer activities. The fee is on a per lesson basis, but if paid in advance (at least four lessons at a time), then they will receive a discounted rate. If students use the advance payment method to receive the discounted rate, the restrictions for excused and unexcused absences apply.
Discounts for Referrals When a student refers another person to me who begins to take lessons, the referring student will receive a credit for their tuition in the amount of 25% of what the new student pays in the first month and 10% of the next six month’s tuition, as long as both students continue to take lessons. Discounts are not transferable except to immediate family members. Credits can only be accumulated up to the cost of tuition, no cash will be paid if the value of the credit exceeds the cost of tuition. Credits can be saved up to three months for when the referring student takes a temporary leave of absence.
Definitions: Excused Absence: at least 24 hour notification of a non-emergency such as vacation or schedule conflict, or less than 24 hour notice of an emergency such as illness or unforeseen circumstance. Only two emergency absences will be honored every quarter year.
Excused absences will be made up by fitting in an extra lesson, or having a longer lesson and will not lower the monthly tuition. Make-up lessons must be taken within 60 days of the absence.
Unexcused Absences: forgotten lessons, less than 24 hour notice for non-emergency, non-notification of emergency, or more than two emergency absences per quarter.
Unexcused absences may not be made up and will not lower the monthly tuition.
Teacher Cancellations: if the teacher cancels a lesson after tuition has been paid, the student may request a refund for that lesson, a credit on the next month’s tuition, or request a make-up lesson.
